It’s a pretty common occurrence at a cake smash session for the baby not to be that fussed about actually smashing the cake.
While you’d think that all little people would relish the opportunity to dive into a giant cake with nobody stopping them, it’s not always the case. Sometimes they are a bit confused as to what we are asking them to do – which is understandable if I’m being honest – and they aren’t super interested in making a mess. Lots of babies aren’t super keen on getting their hands messy (yeah, if you’ve done baby led weaning you can laugh out loud at that bit) and I find that giving them one of my little wooden spoons can encourage them to dig into the cake and explore it a bit more. Sometimes, parents have to fake smash the cake a little bit themselves and that might spark a bit of interest but there are other times that the temptation to move around and see what else they can find to do is more enticing than sitting and eating cake. Yeah, I don’t get it either but babies… what can I tell you?
